Carboninsets launches new service to accelerate supply chain decarbonization
New independent matchmaker service connects freight forwarders and cargo owners with carriers and fuel suppliers to invest in verified emission reductions in efficient and tailored way.
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Tuesday 10th June 2025
Carboninsets, a new independent matchmaker service for verified Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs), has launched to support companies in reducing their Scope 3 emissions throughout their supply chains. Carboninsets unites cargo owners and freight forwarders with stakeholders from across all transportation modalities, regions and technologies, following globally accepted standards.
Carboninsets’ unique proposition supports the decarbonization of freight transportation and business travel across all modalities and fuel types. As a multimodal partner, Carboninsets offers a broad range of EACs, including sea, air, road, rail and inland waterways.
The service accommodates all major low-carbon technologies, including biodiesel, HVO, SAF, bio-LNG, electrification, hydrogen, bio-methanol, and wind propulsion. All EACs adhere to the latest Book and Claim standards and have been externally verified and issued onto the 123Carbon registry, to ensure the integrity and transparency of the certificates.
With supply chain emissions accounting for more than 80% of most companies’ carbon footprints* and traditional carbon offsets being recognized as an increasingly inefficient means of reducing supply chain emissions, Carboninsets arrives at a critical juncture in the pursuit of net-zero global emissions. Carboninsets offers freight forwarders and cargo owners access to a large inventory of existing EACs and the ability to invest in tailored low-carbon transport projects, at any volume.
Maria Lacalle Muls has been appointed as Head of Customer Decarbonization at Carboninsets, to lead on the service’s strategic growth. Maria joins Carboninsets from emissions intelligence platform Lune – a climate tech SaaS – and brings a wealth of experience in sustainability strategy and supply chain management, having previously developed business for a global freight forwarders. Maria is also a Board Member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.
Maria Lacalle Muls said: “Carboninsets is designed to connect companies looking to reduce their Scope 3 emissions with high-integrity EACs to unlock tangible emissions reductions at scale. By enabling organizations to support real decarbonization projects within their supply chains, we’re bridging the gap between ambition and impact.”
“At a time when integrity and transparency are paramount, Carboninsets offers an easy and practical way for companies to realize tangible reductions to their Scope 3 emissions. I’m thrilled to join this exciting and dynamic team and look forward to working with organizations ready to take credible, data-driven steps toward net zero.”
All certificates available on Carboninsets are issued in accordance with globally accepted frameworks, such as those defined by the Smart Freight Centre’s Market Based Measures (MBM) and have been assured by external partners to ensure alignment with industry standards, including ISO 14065, 14083, and 17029. This means that every claim is auditable, verified, and aligned with the latest standards in environmental reporting.
Carboninsets is set to become the leading matchmaker in the emerging carbon insetting market and future phases will expand insetting capabilities into other hard-to-abate sectors including green steel, chemicals, and hydrogen.
